OKLAHOMA CITY -- Heritage Hall wide receiver Sterling Shepard confirmed to Oklahoma Sports's Jessica Coody on Monday that he has given a verbal commitment to the University of Oklahoma.
He chose OU over other offers such as Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Missouri.
He is rated as a 4-star prospect on Rivals.com and is the No. 3 overall player in the state of Oklahoma for next year's recruiting class. He racked up more than 1,500 total yards of offense and scored 28 touchdowns this past season for Heritage Hall.
Shepard was a threat on both sides of the ball this season for the Chargers, and has been recruited as both a receiver and a defensive back.
He took over the scoring load when Heritage Hall running back Barry Sanders, Jr. was absent for much of the season with injury.
OU now has three commits for the 2012 class, including outside linebacker Alex Ross from Jenks and offensive tackle Kyle Marrs from San Antonio.
