SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Lawton Mac stirred from a slow start to beat Thomas Edison 47-36 and advance in the Shawnee Shootout.

The scoreboard read only 10-8 in favor of the Lady Highlanders after the first quarter of play. Both teams struggled offensively, unable to land their shots. The game did show impressive defense though, as both the Lady Eagles and the Lady Highlanders put up strong defensive efforts.

Edison’s Victoria Thompson ended the half with a flash of speed, driving to the basket for a Lady Eagle layup. She ended the game with 14 points. Teammate Brooke Garner showed an impressive effort in the post, blocking and pressuring the Lady Highlanders throughout the game. She finished with six points.

Lawton Mac’s Alexis French led all scorers with 16 points. Teammate Jazzmine Pride followed with 14 points to help lead the Lady Highlanders to the victory. Pride’s speed and ball control were exactly what MacArthur needed to build a large enough margin to win the game.
