EUFAULA, Oklahoma -- It’s one of the oldest rules of thumb in sports: If the other team can’t score, you’ll probably win. That was true in Tuesday night’s 8 Star Conference clashes between Eufaula and Henryetta, the Knights upset the 3A No. 13 Ironheads 53-52 in a game that went down to the last play, and the Lady Knights easily got a 59-28 win.
The boys’ game started out slowly, with both teams trading punches, with eight minutes gone Henryetta led 14-10. Eufaula made two quick threes to go up 16-14, baskets were traded until halftime came with the score knotted at 24.
Henryetta’s zone defense resulted in a 36-26 lead, but the Ironheads clawed back to a 41-39 game with one quarter to go. A 45-39 Knight lead became a 52-51 Eufaula edge with 1:17 left. Junior forward Joe Moudy scored, but the Ironheads had one final chance to win. With one second left, they fired a three that hit the front of the rim and bounced out, as Henryetta improved to .500 with the upset 53-52 triumph.
Sophomores Blake Johnson and Damon Mouss scored 16 points each, Moudy 13, sophomore Grant Ward four, senior guy Kiehl and junior Jake Caywood both had two.
