WEWOKA, Oklahoma -- This might be Wewoka’s best opportunity to de-throne Stroud from the top of the district A-5. The Tigers retain seven starters on each side of the ball, including four of five offensive linemen.
Quarterback Chris Cheatwood is coming off of Tommy John surgery, however head coach Tommy Bare is expecting his quarterback back at full force.
“He’s gotten a lot better with his throwing mechanics and throwing techniques,” Bare said. “We’re looking for good thing out of him with the leadership he provides on the field. We’re real excited about the skill kids.”
Cheatwood also doubles as a linebacker. The defensive side was the major point of emphasis for the Tigers this offseason.
“Our goal around here was to get better on defense,” Bare said. “You look at our scores last year we gave up way, way too many points. We moved some people around. We got some competition, which competition makes everybody better and makes everybody work a little bit harder.”
Competition on top of A-5 is exactly what this Tigers team can bring.
