There’s a lot of knee-jerk reaction going on in the wake of Wednesday’s loss to Texas at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Here’s my take:
1.Texas is really good.
2.OSU has issues getting consistent play at the point and at the forward position.
3.Markel Brown is improving game by game.
4.I’m not sure who’s great in the Big 12 beyond Texas, Kansas, Texas A&M and maybe Missouri.
That 4th item is what can give OSU fans hope that Wednesday’s result isn’t as bad as it may look on the scoreboard.
I remember saying to Dave Hunziker off the air just prior to the start of the second half that I hoped the Cowboys wouldn’t come out flat. The atmosphere in the arena was understandably reflective after the ceremony honoring the 10 men lost in the plane crash 10 years ago. Texas used a good start then, coupled with a fast finish to the end of the first half to control the game.
From this point the Cowboys face a game at suddenly alive Texas Tech before hosting Missouri and OU next week. It’s a critical stretch, if not a must-win series then certainly one where OSU needs to play with a strong sense of urgency.
And Cowboy fans fearing the worst might ask themselves this question- If the Big 12 puts 6 teams in the tournament, who are the last two in? Baylor? Colorado? Kansas State? OU? Texas Tech?
There’s a lot of basketball left to figure it all out.
