I will firmly agree that on the outside looking in both Florida and Nebraska are Top 10 coaching jobs in the country. Unlimited budget. Great to recruit to. National title history. But I’m not sure who has the tougher job the Huskers’ Bo Pelini or new Gator nation head Will Muschamp.
Pelini coaches each day knowing that the greatest head Husker ever, the man who won election to Congress in Nebraska, the man who can do now wrong in the eyes of fans of the big red of the north is his boss.
Muschamp has to worry about Urban Meyer living just around the corner.
Take your pick.
I broadcast three games this weekend in Stillwater: OSU vs. Missouri State men’s basketball, OSU vs. Duke women’s basketball and Bedlam wrestling. What did I learn?
1. Travis Ford has found a couple of athletic wing players who are gaining confidence in JUCO transfer Jean Paul Olukemi and true freshman Markel Brown. If they continue to progress over the Christmas holiday time of the year, they may be just what OSU needs to make a 3rd-straight NCAA tourney.
2. The Duke women are really good. The OSU women are fighters. Their guard Tiffany Bias may not be the next Andrea Riley, but she can defend and she’s tough.
3. The OSU wrestlers could win a national title and it could be multiple. They’ve got that depth they had when they won 4 straight from 2003-06. They beat the Sooners 22-12 and don’t have returning All Americans Neil Erisman and Alan Gelogaev.
May 26th, 2011
