NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners dropped their second straight Saturday, after falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 4-1.
Saturday’s contest opened Big 12 for both teams and marked game one of a two-game series, which will continue on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Cornhuskers were first on the board, putting up three runs in the top of the third. Keilani Ricketts struck out the first Nebraska batter before giving up a homer to Taylor Edwards. Ricketts then walked Brooke Thomason and struck out the next hitter. Heidi Foland doubled to right center, hitting home Thomason to take a 2-0 lead.
Ricketts continued to struggle in the inning, throwing a wild pitch, allowing Foland to advance to third. Tatum Edwards singled up the middle, allowing for the third run of the inning as Foland crossed the plate.
The Sooners answered back on the next at-bat, when Katie Norris homered to left field, bringing the score to 3-1 in the bottom of the third.
Nebraska put up one additional off an OU error in the top of the fifth for the 4-1 win. Ashley Hagemann threw a complete game, giving up five hits and recording eight strikeouts.
Ricketts finished with the loss after also throwing a complete game, giving up seven hits while striking out 13 strikeouts.
