STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has promoted linebackers coach Glenn Spencer to co-defensive coordinator.

Spencer is entering his fourth year at Oklahoma State. He served as the defensive line coach at OSU in 2008 before taking on linebacker duties in 2009 and 2010.

“The title is an honor,” Spencer said. “We have a tremendous defensive staff. From day one, Bill Young has taken input from all of us. For him to recognize this and to want that title for me means a lot.”

Bill Young retains the title of defensive coordinator.

“Nothing is going to change in how we operate, but it’s good to feel recognized for your contributions,” he added. “To work with a guy like Bill Young means a lot. I love the chemistry we have as a staff in our room and we’ll keep getting better and better as all these seasons go on.”

Prior to arriving in Stillwater, Spencer served as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at Duke, while also coaching the Blue Devils’ defensive backs.

In 2010, Spencer’s linebacker corps included a pair of honorees. Shaun Lewis was the Big 12 Conference co-defensive freshman of the year and was honored as a freshman All-American. Senior Orie Lemon was a first-team All-Big 12 selection.

Spencer is a graduate of Georgia Tech and was a defensive tackle for the Yellow Jackets. He served as head coach at West Georgia (1998-2000) before returning to Atlanta, where he spent three seasons on the Tech coaching staff. He left Georgia Tech for Duke in 2004.

Oklahoma State continues its spring practices over the next few weeks. The spring session comes to an end on April 16 with the Orange-White game.
