STILLWATER, Okla. – The Cowgirls experienced a small roller coaster of emotions in a 9-5 win over North Texas on Wednesday at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.

OSU burst out of the gate quickly, racking up four runs in the bottom of the first inning before North Texas even got its first out.

But the Mean Green fought back with a barrage of homers over the next few innings.

North Texas got a leadoff home run in the second, a solo homer in the fourth, and a three-run home run in the fifth, giving it a 5-4 lead before the Cowgirls knew what hit them.

But Oklahoma State stayed poised and responded in the bottom of the same inning. Alysia Hamilton led off with a double and Julie Ward blasted her ninth home run of the season to put The Cowgirls back on top.

In the next inning, OSU shortstop Chelsa Garcia doubled with the bases loaded to give her team its final 9-5 margin.

Garcia went 2-for-4 on the day with four RBIs.

Simone Freeman picked up the save for the Cowgirls, relieving starter Kat Espinosa in the sixth.

OSU will open Big 12 play this weekend as it travels to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State. The first game of the series will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
