STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The OSU Cowboys were on a roll, blazing past Cal Poly in a series last week, but March started off on a sour note for the Pokes, after they dropped a narrow 3-2 game at the hands of Missouri State.
The Bears led 3-1 in the top of the eighth inning, when Missouri State’s Trey Massenberg launched a single, hitting home Patrick Drake from third. The Cowboys quickly responded in the bottom of the inning when Davis Duren hit a homer to bring the score to 3-2. OSU’s bats fell flat after that though, as they were unable to produce any more runs.
The Cowboys’ Andrew Heck pitched seven innings, striking out eight Bears at bat while allowing two runs on seven hits. At bat, OSU struggled to ever get their bats warmed up, registering only six hits the entire contest.
Clay Murphy finished with the win for Missouri State, having pitched five innings. He gave up three hits while striking out four batters.
The Cowboys, now 6-2, will Washington State first, as part of the Dairy Queen Classic.
