TULSA, Oklahoma -- A late-game run gave the Rice Owls an eight-point advantage to sink the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 61-53 Sunday.
The loss kept the Golden Hurricane winless in its young Conference USA season.
Tulsa took a lead halfway through the second half on a Denise Lewis jumper, but that would be the last lead TU would hold.
The Owls put together a 10-2 run – including six from Jessica Kuster – to take a 52-44 lead with just 5:18 left on the clock. Each squad only managed nine points for the rest of the contest.
Tulsa’s Kuster led all scorers with 17 points, 15 boards and three blocks, while Morgan Mayse scored 14 and Briana Hypolite added 15 and eight rebounds.
Loren McDaniel set the pace for Tulsa with 13 rebounds and nine rebounds with Denise Lewis contributing 12.
The Golden Hurricane will try to notch its first conference win at 7 p.m. Thursday against the SMU Mustangs.
