OKLAHOMA CITY – The Associated Press released its All-Big 12 postseason awards Thursday, and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State players and coaches took the three most prestigious honors.
OSU head coach Mike Gundy received Coach of the Year, the second such honor he has received this week. He led the Cowboys to one of their best seasons in school history in a year that they were commonly picked to finish in the bottom half of the Big 12 South.
Sophomore receiver Justin Blackmon received the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award. He finished the regular season leading the nation with 1,665 receiving yards and tied an NCAA record by recording 100 yards and a touchdown in 11 consecutive games.
The Defensive Player of the Year Award went to OU defensive end Jeremy Beal, who leads the Big 12 with 17 solo tackles for loss. He is also second in the conference with nine sacks, trailing Texas A&M’s Von Miller by only half a sack.
The AP also announced its two newcomers of the year, and both went to Nebraska players: freshman Taylor Martinez on offense and junior college transfer Lavonte David on defense.
