NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma women’s basketball team was nearly unstoppable Friday in a 116-66 rout of Texas-Pan American in the first round of the Travelers Invitational.
The Sooners (4-0) dominated almost every phase of the game. They out-rebounded UTPA 55-30, leading to them taking 77 shots and shooting 56 percent from the field.
Freshman Aaryn Ellenberg led OU with 26 points and made four of the team’s six 3-pointers. Joanna McFarland scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, seven of them off the offensive glass.
With the game being a blowout for much of the night, several of OU’s bench players also got into the action. Every player on the roster recorded at least two rebounds, and 12 different players scored, with six of them scoring in double digits.
The Sooners’ 116 points are the most they have scored since Dec. 3, 2009, which came against the University of Texas at Arlington.
OU has now stretched its winning streak to four games to start the season, and will continue play in the Travelers Invitational against Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m. Saturday.
