STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- John Holcomb and Dean Blevins participated in the annual Mike Gundy Media Play Day at Karsten Creek Country Club in Stillwater Tuesday.
Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bill Young, offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and associate head coach Joe DeForest took time to speak to John and Dean about the upcoming season.
One of the biggest questions going into the year may be the new offense Holgorsen is implementing, but don’t tell that to the new playcaller.
“I typically don’t field questions that don’t make any sense,” Holgorsen said. “I don’t pay attention much to the expectations.”
Turnover on defense is also an issue for the Cowboys after losing seven starters – including all three linebackers from the 2009 season – but coaches are satisfied with the progress that was made in the spring.
“We’ve got a very good group of guys coming back,” Young said. “We always want to take a step each year and we have that chance. We’re going to be a lot better football team than people give us credit for.”
And despite any doubts and criticisms, that won’t change the way the Cowboys’ coaches approach each week.
“We’re going to coach the same way whether we’re favorites or whether we’re underdogs,” DeForest said. “We’ve got to do a good job preparing our kids for every game, every opponent and every play. What people think of us really doesn’t matter.”
