OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant finished second in the voting for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, finishing significantly behind the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James.
James earned his second MVP award and received 116 out of a possible 123 first-place votes. Durant, who became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history this season, received four first-place votes. The difference in points between the first and second vote getters (596) is the second highest in NBA history.
While James’ victory was a landslide, Durant did beat some other high-profile players. He finished ahead of the likes of Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade.
Durant finished the regular season averaging 30.1 points per game, the most in the league. In the six playoff games the Thunder played against the Lakers, Durant averaged 25.0 points per game, which also ranked in the top 10 in the NBA.
