STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State extended its dominance over the Cornhuskers with an 8-0, five-inning win Sunday.
Cowgirls’ (43-11, 12-4) pitcher Kat Espinosa (18-4) had another dominant Sunday performance, pitching all five innings for OSU and just surrendering three hits. Robin Mackin (12-12) was less dominant for Nebraska (28-25, 6-10), giving up three earned runs on one hit in 1.1 innings of service.
OSU scored six of its eight runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on mistakes by Nebraska pitchers. With two outs and the bases loaded, Chelsea Garcia hit a two-run double to right field to bring Megan Castle and Tamara Brown home.
Nebraska pitcher Ashley Hageman walked Kelsey Anchors in the next at-bat to load the bases and then hit Mariah Gerhart to bring Breana Casaus home. Katelyn Bright hit a bases clearing double in the next at-bat to bring Gerhart, Anchors and Garcia home and give OSU a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Garcia added another run to the Cowgirls’ lead with a solo home run to center in the first at-bat of the inning. Later in the inning, Gerhart scored a run on an error by the short stop to give Oklahoma State an 8-0 lead.
Espinosa retired the next three batters to enact the run rule and end the game two innings early.
