TULSA, Oklahoma – Oklahoma and Tulsa battled into extra innings Tuesday, but Christian Timmons ended things with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give TU a 5-4 victory.
The Golden Hurricane (14-10) loaded the bases with the first three batters of the ninth inning, allowing Timmons to easily drive home the winning run. TU connected on 15 hits in the game while the Sooners (25-7) recorded only six, but Tulsa’s were much more scattered.
OU started the game quickly, with a three-run home run by Jessica Shults in the top of the first inning. Tulsa responded immediately with two runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to RBI singles by Cassidy Bowen and Vanessa Vice.
Vice added another RBI single in the third inning to tie the score 3-3. Lindsey Vandever hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth to retake the lead for the Sooners, but TU immediately answered again in the bottom of the inning. Lauren Lindsay drove in a run with a single, which forced the game into extra innings.
OU starter Michelle Gascoigne went just three innings and gave up three runs on nine hits. Keilani Ricketts pitched the rest of the game and gave up the final two runs, giving her the loss.
Jordan Kinard started for Tulsa and gave up four runs on four hits, but Vandever’s home run was the only hit she allowed after the first inning. After Kinard left in the sixth, Kalynn Schrock finished the game to earn the win.
