HUNTINGTON, West Virginia – After fighting back and forth for the entire game, the Tulsa men’s basketball team lost 64-56 to Marshall Wednesday.

The Thundering Herd built a lead of 11 points in the first half, but that turned out to be the biggest advantage for either team for the rest of the night. The Golden Hurricane came back late in the first half to go into halftime down 30-25. Neither team extended a lead bigger than that until the very end of the night.

After trading blows to start the second half, TU finally built some momentum and went on a 14-4 run – its only major run of the night – to take a 50-45 lead. That advantage did not last long.

With Tulsa up 54-53, Marshall began its biggest run of the game, aided by strong free-throw shooting. The Thunder Herd made eight of their final 10 free throws, while TU rushed shots and could not score when it mattered. Marshall finished the game on an 11-2 run.

Ben Uzoh led the Hurricane with a game-high 22 points, and Jerome Jordan added 13. Four different Marshall players scored in double digits, and Hassan Whiteside led the way with 17.

Tulsa has now lost two straight games and three of its last four. The Golden Hurricane has five more games left this season, including one on the road against perennial powerhouse Duke. They will return to Oklahoma to host UTEP at 7 p.m. Saturday.
