GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Former Texas Tech defensive coordinator and brief interim coach Ruffin McNeill is now the new head coach of East Carolina.
McNeill, who is a graduate of ECU, will replace previous head coach Skip Holtz, who left last week for South Florida.
OU offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was one of three finalists for the position and flew to North Carolina Wednesday to interview for the job. The selection of McNeill means Wilson has been a finalist for two positions, both filled by other coaches in a span of two days. Wilson was also a finalist for the open position at Louisiana Tech, but Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes took that job Wednesday.
An East Carolina Board of Trustees meeting confirm the selection of McNeill made by athletic director Terry Holland as well as the basic outline of McNeill's contract. The specifics of that contract were not announced.
