DALLAS -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane hold off a late charge by SMU to defeat the Mustangs 63-57 Wednesday. Justin Hurtt had 17 points while Ben Uzoh finished with 16.
Tulsa (12-3, 3-0) opened the game on 16-0 run. SMU (6-8, 0-2) did not score a basket until the 13:17 mark in the first half. But the Hurricane attack stalled out and TU took a 26-17 lead into the half.
The Mustangs managed to close the gap to 34-30 in the second half. However, the Hurricane went on an 11-2 run to keep SMU at bay.
Mouhammad Faye scored 17 points to lead the Mustangs while Papa Dia had 15points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Tulsa heads back to the Reynolds Center to face Central Florida Saturday Jan. 16.
