ROGERS COUNTY, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says two people were killed in a head-on collision on westbound Interstate-44 at the Verdigris River Bridge in Rogers County.

The wreck took place at about 10:04 p.m. near mile marker 245.

The two victims were identified by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Thursday afternoon. Dead are 22-year-old Margo Colby O'Mealey of Norman and Kathy Jo Starks, 47, of Tulsa.

Troopers say Starks was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Will Rogers Turnpike and struck O'Mealey's vehicle head on. Starks' condition at the time of the wreck is listed as unknown.

The 47-year-old Tulsa woman was pinned in her 2007 Dodge Magnum for an hour and was pronounced dead at the scene from head and internal injuries.

Both women were wearing seat belts, the accident report states. The cause of the collision is listed as driving the wrong way on a one way road.

Colby, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was freed from her vehicle after about 30 minutes. She was also pronounced dead at the scene from head and internal injuries.

Westbound lanes of the interstate highway were closed for about 2 hours as traffic was diverted at the Verdigris exit.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
