PAWHUSKA, Oklahoma -- A 20-year-old Pawhuska man was killed in an apparent drunk driving accident overnight Sunday. Christopher Todd was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed at about 1:38 a.m. on Grandview, just north of Lakeview inside the Pawhuska City limits.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say driver Justin Bowen, 22, was northbound on Grandview when his 2001 Hyundai Tiburon left the roadway to the right, rolled and struck a tree with its roof, collapsing the passenger compartment. It then came to rest on the passenger side.
Todd, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected through the rear window and pronounced dead from his injuries after being airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Tulsa.
Bowen, who was pinned in the Hyundai for about 30 minutes, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with head and trunk injuries. Another passenger, 20-year-old Skylar Davis of Pawhuska, refused treatment at the scene.
Condition of the driver at the time of the accident is listed as drinking – ability impaired, according to Trooper Jim Armstrong of the Osage County detachment. Cause of the collision is listed as driving under the influence.
