Ludwig was arrested on September 23, 2009, when police say they found cocaine and a scale in his duffle bag. The officer was under investigation for timesheet discrepancies and used the duffle bag to clean out his patrol car.

His attorney initially claimed a suspect had hidden the drugs in Ludwig's car.
