TULSA, Oklahoma - Hundreds are Tulsa families are receiving food and other essentials Wednesday in the Americans Feeding American Caravan sponsored by Feed The Children.
Three semi tractor-trailers filled with food, other essentials and Avon products are being distributed to needy families.
"Our Americans Feeding Americans Caravan is geared toward families affected by the economic downturn," said Abby Harris of Feed The Children.
"Many of these people were considered middle class a few years ago, and now have to choose between paying bills and buying groceries.
Food is being distributed at Christ for Humanity, 6414 East 13th Street, early Wednesday morning to help 800 families. Wednesday evening, the boxes will be distributed at Greater Grace Temple at 1010 East 56th Street North to help 400 families.
"Nearly one in three Tulsa children is considered impoverished," the group said in a news release. "The number of children in Oklahoma living in poverty could fill Skelly Stadium nearly seven times."
