SAND SPRINGS, OK -- Some Sand Springs firefighters hit the park on Sunday.
They spent their day remodeling the bathrooms at River City Park. They had been condemned because the roof was falling in and with budget cuts there just wasn't any money for repairs.
So, the firefighters decided to pitch in.
"We wouldn't want our wives or children to have to come down here and have to get in these nasty port-a-potties, just for a lack of a better word. So, we're just trying to get it to where it's something our family would want to use," said Barry Molencupp, Sand Springs Fire Department.
Thanks to their hard work, the bathrooms should be back open by the end of the week. Local businesses donated all of the supplies.
Sand Springs firefighters said other community projects are in the works.
