TULSA, OK -- Some Tulsa Public School teachers will have a little extra cash to start off Spring Break.
Teachers at seven TPS schools were surprised with a visit from the Superintendent on Friday.
Dr. Keith Ballard handed the teachers checks for amounts up to $3,000. The awards were based on an academic performance index.
The index takes everything from standardized tests to attendance to graduation rates into account.
"For me it's personally rewarding, as superintendent, do be able to go into the schools, to see kids like this behind me - singing and performing - and to be able to go up to teachers and say thank you for what you do for TPS kids," Superintendent Ballard said.
The Oklahoma Department of Education pays for those incentives.
