Ropp's Farm and Bakery's humble origins began in 1987, when a middle-aged Amish couple moved into the Chouteau, OK Amish settlement in rural Mayes County, OK from Iowa. With the need to make an honest living to provide for their family, along with working in construction, raising hogs and dairy heifers, former owners, Lloyd and Anna Mae Ropp decided to bake a few loaves of bread and some pies and proceeded to sell them in a crudely constructed roadside stand a couple days per week. Soon word spread among the locals and beyond about this small business venture until the demand for product necessitated the need for expansion into a converted harness shop on the homestead property. The next 14 years, business only increased, employees were added, and lunch and dinner options also became available.
In January 2002, a Mennonite couple, Larry and Shirley Kennell, purchased the property and equipment from the Ropp family, added phones lines, electricity, and expanded the days open for business. Today, the business operates with approximately 13 part-time employees, providing the general public with a large variety of home-baked food delicacies, confections, farm goods, etc..
It is our commitment to continue a tradition based on humble, Christian roots, in providing only the best quality and tasty food selections at an affordable price, to meet the needs of the general public in their best interest. Your continued support will be able to help us achieve these goals beyond today and into the future. Our deepest gratitude to all of our visitors who come by to see us. May God protect all of you.
