TULSA, OK -- The football dominance by Jenks and Union grew in the mid 1990's but both teams have a monopoly on the first decade in the new millennium.
The Jenks Trojans have won five 6A state championships while the Union Redskins hold the other four titles, including a victory over Jenks in last season's championship game. It is also the 14th consecutive year that either Jenks or Union will win the 6A gold ball.
When the two teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Tulsa's Chapman Stadium, it will mark the seventh time in 12 seasons that they have faced off in the state championship.
Football fans are already lining up for tickets.
Jenks will forfeit its profits from the championship game. It's part of the football team's punishment for violating recruiting rules. Jenks' portion of ticket sales will instead go to the state organization that oversees high school athletics.
