OKMULGEE CO. -- A 33-year-old Mounds man was killed Friday at about 10:30 p.m. after driving the wrong way on U.S Highway 75 in Okmulgee County.

Jeremy W. West was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2003 Chevy Pickup he was driving crashed head-on into a 2008 GMC pickup driven by Rowdy R. Hartley, 24, of Weatherford. Hartley was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in stable condition with head, internal and leg injuries, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Multiple witnesses called into the police to report West's vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes from 201st Street South in Tulsa County to where the accident occurred at 241st Street South in Okmulgee County. Emergency crews from Tulsa, Creek and Okmulgee Counties as well as Beggs and Mounds units responded in an attempt to stop the wrong-way vehicle.

Both drivers were pinned in their trucks for about 20 minutes and were extricated by Beggs and Mounds Fire Departments using the jaws of life. West was not wearing his seat belt; Hartley was.
