TULSA---Today 28 students in Tulsa Tech's YouthBuild program picked up trash and painted over graffiti at sites across Tulsa. YouthBuild is funded with grant money from the U.S. Department of Labor in an effort to help disadvantaged youth with education and training.
‘These young men will get paid to get their G.E.D. or their high school diploma, they also get paid to do work site training,' said Linda Parker, Coordinator for Tulsa Tech's YouthBuild program, ‘one of the things they always say is "this made a difference in my life, I would have either been on the street or in prison," and they now have jobs and they have futures that they are looking forward to.'
‘I decided to go to Tulsa Tech and do something better in my life,' said John Whiteside, ‘if you go take a trade then you can make better things happen. I'm going to reach the stars and I'm going to touch them.'
If you are interested in the YouthBuild program, contact Linda Parker at 918-828-5287 or go to www.TulsaTech.edu
The next recruiting workshops will be held Thursday October 15th and Thursday October 29th. Please call to determine if you meet the program qualifications.
