OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Top NBA prospect Blake Griffin has been honored with a proclamation from the Oklahoma City Council naming the day in his honor.
Griffin is the AP player of the year and the only unanimous All-American. He was recognized for his playing career at Oklahoma. He plans to enter the NBA draft, where he has a chance to be the top overall pick.
Mayor Mick Cornett told Griffin he was the first player ever from Oklahoma City to win the Naismith Award given annually to college basketball's top player. He said Griffin and Sam Bradford gave the city the first duo ever to produce the Naismith and the Heisman Trophy within a year.
Bradford was honored with a day in his honor in January. Griffin is a sophomore.
