Most people will get a tax rebate check for at least $600. The News On 6's Emory Bryan reports the checks aren't in the mail yet, but they should be by June, now that Congress and the White House agree on how much is enough.
The politicians agreed that everyone making less than $75,000 a year should get the rebate, even those who make too little to have paid any taxes upfront.
The tax rebates will be $600 for individuals, and $1200 for working couples. There's $300 for each child in the family. That means a working couple with two children would get $1800.
David Blatt of the Community Action Project says Oklahomans haven't seen the kind of recession that's hitting the rest of the country, but the money will help out.
"I think that a lot of people will have a way to pay off some bills, and between the rebates and tax refunds coming, people will have some extra spending money that will help pump the economy and keep the recession further away," said David Blatt with the Community Action Project.
The deal in Washington comes as a surprise to many taxpayers who will get one of the checks, but they'll be happy to spend some of the money Washington is sending back home.
