BILOXI, Miss. (AP) -- Thousands of people on Mississippi's Gulf Coast are celebrating the opening of a bridge that replaces one destroyed by the storm surge from Hurricane Katrina.

The six lane bridge connects Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Two of the six lanes are opening Thursday night. Wiith the bridge opening, the last of the broken links in coastal
U.S. 90 is restored.

In the aftermath of the storm, the cities on the opposite sides of Biloxi Bay were fighting over the blueprints for a wider and taller bridge than the one that was destroyed. Now, those divisions are an afterthought or, as Biloxi's mayor puts it, "water under the bridge."

The mayor of Ocean Springs says she's pleased by some of the features of the new bridge, including a bike path, see-through railings, and decorative lights.
