The new owners of Tulsa's famous buried car have come to town to claim it. The family of Ray Humbertson wants to preserve the car as it is, not restore it.
They will try to undue the damage done by the Belvedere's leaky vault. To do that the family has teamed up with a New Jersey company that makes industrial cleaners. The family will return to Tulsa later this month to haul the car to New Jersey to begin the process.
"When we come back to unveil that, we want to recreate what happened the fist time, except maybe have a little better response than the disappointment when everyone saw the condition she was in," industrial cleaner manufacturer Dwight Foster said.
Ray Humbertson died in Maryland in 1979. His family believes he passed through Tulsa in 1957 and entered the contest to win the car, while on leave from the military.
