OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A state climatologist says changes in the earth's climate will mean prolonged heat waves and drought in Oklahoma and shorter periods of cold weather.
Ken Crawford with the Oklahoma Climatological Survey told officials studying future water use in Oklahoma that the evidence is mounting that human activity is having an impact on the earth's climate through greenhouse gases.
He says the cause of global warming may be politicized but the effect is not.
Crawford says the heat waves and dry periods will put more stress on Oklahoma water resources and officials must take that into account when developing a water plan.
