Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week in Mounds. The superintendent says a plan to get kids back in class this week was just wishful thinking.

The elementary school was destroyed by fire on Saturday. The fire marshal entered the burned building for the first time on Monday. School officials are asking parents and staff for patience as the investigation continues.

"I have not been allowed in there as well as any of our other people,” Mounds Superintendent Gary Lundy said. “I don't want our people, our patrons, and citizens and parents to think they've been left out of the loop. But fortunately and honestly I don't have a lot of information.”

Lundy will update parents in a community meeting Thursday night. Meanwhile, a recorded information line has been set up for people wanting to know more that number is 918-827-6897.

Teachers have taken inventory and just released a list of school supplies they need. Those supplies can be donated at American Heritage Bank locations. Those banks are located in:

  • Beggs

  • Berryhill

  • Cleveland

  • Kellyville

  • Kiefer

  • Mannford

  • Mounds

  • Sand Springs

  • Sapulpa

  • Tulsa at 71st and Union

  • Yale
