Broken Arrow Police say your eyes and ears just may be the key to unlocking a child rape case. They say a man kidnapped a 5-year-old girl from her yard September 20, raped her and then dumped her off in a neighborhood just eight miles from her home. The News On 6’s Latoya Silmon reports Broken Arrow Police are determined to crack this case and they are counting on you to help them.
“We've gotten some good leads, we've actually gotten a lot of information,†said Broken Arrow Police Major Brandon Berryhill. “The difficulty is sifting through the leads themselves.â€
As the weeks pass, the fear in the Broken Arrow community grows, but police say they are working very hard to make sure the case does not become a dead end.
“If he's here or someplace else we're going to continue until we find him,†Major Berryhill said.
Until that day comes, Billy Graham says he will not rest.
“I still wake up at night looking at the little girl's face,†Broken Arrow resident Billy Graham said.
Graham was one of the first people to see the little girl after the rapist dumped her.
“It's a real hard, hard thing to get by,†said Graham. “It's like a death in the family. It just stays with you. You can't get away from it.â€
That is why like police, he is urging anyone with information to come forward.
“What we really need is people to be specific with those tips. A tag number, the time of day, the address about the particular information,†said Broken Arrow Police Major Brandon Berryhill.
Graham hopes a reward worth more than $27,000 and a guilty conscience will jog someone's memory and drive a child rapist out of hiding.
Police say the suspect is described as a white, fair-skinned male, with short thinning light colored hair, partially bald. The suspect’s age range is approximately 30 to 40-years-old. Police say the rapist also had on a shirt with the word "cat" on it and drove a white Dodge Intrepid.
Anyone with information is asked to call Broken Police at 259-8400 or their crime line at 259-1111.
