Police Officer Injured In Shootout Released From Hospital

The condition of a shooting victim involved in a Broken Arrow shooting and standoff Monday morning is improving, despite the fact the victim was seriously injured in the incident. Friends of Teresa Thompson tell the News On 6, Thompson is improving. They say the bullet hit Thompson’s spinal cord and there is a fear Thompson could be paralyzed from the waist down.
Meanwhile, a Broken Arrow Police officer is now out of a Tulsa hospital after he was grazed by a bullet during the incident at Thompson's home. Officer Zach Schatz was shot in the chest, but survived, thanks to his bulletproof vest.
Schatz has been with the Broken Arrow Police Department for 2 years. He was placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome an investigation into the incident.
Broken Arrow Police say Teresa Thompson was shot after her ex-boyfriend, Kelly Waymire broke into her Broken Arrow home Monday morning. Police say Waymire and Thompson’s current boyfriend exchanged gunfire.
Police say Waymire held Thompson and her 15-year-old daughter hostage Monday for 3 hours.
The suspect, 46-year-old Kelly Waymire was arrested at the scene and booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of attempted murder of a police officer, shooting with intent to kill, unlawful discharge of a firearm and violation of a protective order.
