PURCELL, Okla. (AP) _ Two state Department of Transportation workers were killed after they were struck by a tire while working along interstate 35 in McClain County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 29-year-old Jose Milan of Detroit, Mich., and a Mexican national, 18-year-old Avila Bustomonte were killed in Saturday’s accident near Purcell.

Troopers say the transportation workers were repairing a center cable barrier along the interstate when the left rear tire and wheel of a 16-foot box trailer being towed by a pickup truck detached as it was pulled along the busy interstate highway.

The tire struck the two men. The patrol says Bustomonte was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. Milan was transported to Norman regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
