GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Former Oklahoma quarterback Paul Thompson is making a run at winning the third-string quarterback job with the Green Bay Packers.
Thompson played quarterback, receiver and went back to quarterback at OU then signed as an undrafted free agent receiver with the New York Jets but was released when Green Bay agreed to give him a try at quarterback.
After a struggling at first Thompson is now opening some eyes with his arm strength, athleticism and work habits. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says there is a good battle between Thompson and Ingle Martin to be the third quarterback.
The Packers starter is veteran Brett Favre and the backup is former first-round draft pick Aaron Rodgers.
