The family of a man shot to death Monday night wants justice, and they say it needs to start with tight lipped witnesses. In an exclusive interview, the victim's cousin told News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren she knows someone saw something, or someone knows something. News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren reports the victim’s cousin says in her book not coming forward with information is just as bad as committing the crime.
Danyel Williams says her entire family has been devastated by the loss of her cousin, 22-year-old Mark Williams. He was found dead in his home on North Main Monday night after being shot several times. Witnesses reported seeing two to four men running from the scene, but there have been no other details.
"It’s aggravating because it’s like somebody saw something. It was too early in the nighttime; it’s just too much happening, too much. Somebody saw something," the victim’s cousin Danyel Williams said.
Williams says her cousin had been playing dominos at the table when he was killed. She says he had to be playing with someone, and that person or those people have information the police need.
"I just want, if you know anything to come forward because you've taken something from us that can never be replaced, that can never be brought back," said Williams.
But before his death Mark Williams was supposed to be a witness himself. He was scheduled to testify in court this Friday in another murder case involving a man named Lyndell Dabney. Dabney is accused of murdering a man earlier this year, just a block from where Williams was killed. In fact, Williams was wearing a GPS ankle monitor so police could make sure he didn't leave town.
"We tell them up front they need to extract themselves from that lifestyle, to get away from those people and locations that put them at risk,†Tulsa Police Sergeant Mike Huff said. “We were hoping this ankle monitor would give us some idea, but can't be with him 24 hours a day."
Even so, detectives say they're not sure if Williams was killed because he was a witness or for other reasons. To Williams' family the reason will only come out when witnesses do the same.
"He has a mother, he has a sister, you know he has children, and they deserve the closure of knowing that justice was prevailed for their father, their brother, their son," said Mark’s cousin Danyel Williams.
If you know anything about Mark Williams’ death you’re asked to call Crimestoppers, 596-COPS. You can remain anonymous and could earn a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest.
