OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Businesses whose pollution emissions are regulated by state and federal agencies have aired their concerns over proposed new rules governing those emissions. The state Department of Environmental Quality's Air Quality Division is revising its rules governing excess emissions and seeking input from the businesses that would be affected by the changes.
The types of facilities affected by the rules run the gamut from very small companies that might have a boiler on site to power their operation to larger facilities like refineries or power plants.
Air Quality Division Director Eddie Terrill says limiting the amount of emissions ultimately will lead to safer air quality for those who live and work near the facilities.
The final version of the rules still must be approved by the Air Quality Advisory Council sometime next year.
