OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The chairman of the Republican Party says Senate President Pro Tem Cal Hobson should step down or be replaced as the Senate's top leader.

Hobson is currently in an alcohol rehabilitation center.

G-O-P Chairman Gary Jones says if Hobson has personal problems that keep him from fulfilling his duties, he should not be serving in that capacity.

Late last month, a family member disclosed that Hobson had entered a treatment center, but would not discuss whether it was alcohol related.

Hobson spent time at an alcohol treatment center in June 2003, returning to his duties the next month. He was on the job during this year's legislative session.

Jones says he heard rumors that some Democrats were jockeying to replace Hobson. A Democratic senator called the rumors false.
