WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Oklahoma Humanities Council is receiving more than $50,000 for a reading and discussion program that focuses on American democracy.
The project entitled "Oklahoma We the People" will also receive funding to digitize traveling exhibits.
Grants to 21 states totaling more than $1.2-million were announced Tuesday by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
They are part of a new NEH initiative called "We the People" announced by President Bush in September. The projects are designed to explore significant events and themes in the nation's history.
