Police are putting more heat on Tulsa gangs. The department's Uniform Division North is reassigning some of its officers to a selective enforcement unit to target gang members involved in crime.

The officers will coordinate with homicide investigators and the gang unit to share information. They'll also gather new intelligence, develop new cases, and go after individuals who already have outstanding warrants.

Tulsa Police Major Mark McCrory: "What we're going to try to do is aggressively pursue them in conjunction with our warrants squad and see if we can get some of these guys behind bars to maybe prevent some things from happening. Instead of being reactive, try to be a little more proactive.”

The project will last several months. We're told it won't impact the city's regular police service.
