(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A bill to eliminate state sales taxes on certain sports tournaments tickets was approved by a House committee and referred to the full House this week.

House Bill 2292 would take away taxes on tickets for tournaments that decide regional or national championships at the college or university level at publicly owned venues.

Republican Representative Leonard Sullivan of Oklahoma City wrote the bill. It was passed by the House Revenue and Taxation Committee on Wednesday.

Sullivan says the sales taxes put Oklahoma City at a disadvantage with other venues. Authorities say the Big 12 Conference doesn't have to pay sales taxes in Missouri or Texas because it's a nonprofit organization.
