SAYRE, Okla. (AP) _ Kidnapping charges were filed Monday against a man accused holding a woman captive and leading officers on a high speed chase.
Police said Floyd Steven Collins Jr., 24, kidnapped Shannon Haight from a parking lot in Elk City.
Haight used a cellular phone to call her boyfriend from inside the vehicle's trunk. She told her boyfriend she had been abducted by an unknown male.
Collins did not appear in court Monday. He is hospitalized and recovering from wounds he suffered when he was arrested Friday, District Attorney Dennis Smith said.
Troopers captured Collins after a high-speed chase, which began when authorities were alerted to a possible abduction involving a silver Lexus.
The chase ended when the car rolled and crashed.
``Other charges are going to be filed for sure, such as attempting to elude police and bodily endangerment,'' Smith said. ``We're just waiting for some more information to come in ... and we're in no hurry.''
Collins is also wanted in South Carolina as a suspect in an Aug. 23 rape.
Capt. Dewey Smith of the Perkins County Sheriff's Department in South Carolina said details of case are similar to what happened in Oklahoma.
``The only difference in our case is that he couldn't get the girl in the trunk,'' Smith said. ``There was no trunk. He was driving a truck. But we have forensic evidence.
``So we're fairly certain that, when all is said and done, we'll have our man.''
In North Carolina, Collins is wanted for kidnapping and rape.
``We're dealing with a serial rapist,'' Smith said. ``He's a traveling man. Works in construction. So he's all over the place. We're contacting other agencies now, and there's no telling what will come out of the woodwork.
``Frankly, we hope he never leaves Oklahoma.''
