(Muskogee-AP) -- A federal judge ruled a Wister man who told authorities he killed a couple is competent to face further court proceedings.
Edward R. Fields is accused of shooting Charles and Shirley Chick while they were camping in Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area.
Fields was determined competent even though he tried to kill himself last week and told authorities he heard voices.
He allegedly wore a camouflage suit and watched the Texas couple for several days before sneaking up on them.
In order for his case to go forward, he must be indicted by a grand jury.
