Oklahoma City's furniture market is consolidating considerably with the joining of two of the biggest furniture stores.
Mathis Brothers Furniture will buy a majority ownership in nearby Evans Furniture, with the deal to finalize as early as this week.
The sale gives Mathis Brothers five stores with five different names in the Oklahoma City area.
Mathis Brothers already owns Thomasville, Drexel-Heritage and Factory Direct.
Evans Furniture began in Oklahoma City more than 60 years ago and is run by third-generation owners Larry and Mike Evans.
Mathis Brothers says the sale will not affect Evans employees, and Evans stores in Oklahoma City and Tulsa will retain their name.
