(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The presidential primary in Oklahoma would be about a month earlier under legislation passed by the House Thursday.
The bill would move the primary from March to one week after the New Hampshire primary in February. Oklahoma is one of several states that currently take part in the Super Tuesday primary in March.
Senator Keith Leftwich of Oklahoma City says the earlier primary will give the state a bigger role in selecting the nominees for president and bring more attention to the state from candidates.
The bill has passed the Senate and now goes to Governor Henry for his signature.
